Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain or plastic cemented over the front of your teeth to change their color or shape. Badly stained, shaped, or crooked teeth may be improved by veneers placed on the surface of the affected teeth.
Veneers are used on teeth with uneven surfaces or are chipped, discolored, oddly shaped, unevenly spaced or crooked. Little or no anesthesia is needed. Veneers have a longer life expectancy and color stability than bonding, and highly resist permanent staining from coffee, tea, or even cigarette smoking.
Veneers are usually made by a dental lab technician working from a model provided by your cosmetic dentist in Hingham, MA. Veneers are usually irreversible because it is necessary, in most of the cases, to remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth to accommodate the shell.
Typically, veneers entail at least three appointments: diagnosis and treatment planning, preparation, and bonding.
- What to Expect with Veneers Diagnosis & Planning: This stage allows Dr. Khayat to evaluate your smile and discuss whether veneers are the best option for you.
Preparation: During this visit, usually lasting one to two hours, the teeth are lightly buffed to allow for the small added thickness of the veneer. Usually, about a half a millimeter of the tooth is removed, which may require a local anesthetic. During the same visit, a mold is taken of the teeth and sent to the laboratory for the fabrication of the veneers.
Bonding: Also, lasting about one or two hours, the veneers are placed on the tooth surface with water or glycerine on the teeth to check their fit and get a sense of the shade or color. While the veneers are resting on your teeth, they can be adjusted with various shades of cement to match the color of your teeth. To apply the veneer, the tooth is cleansed with specific chemicals to achieve a bond. Once a special cement is sandwiched between the veneer and tooth, a visible light beam, or laser, causes a catalyst to be released, hardening the cement.
During a two-week period of adjustment that follows, you may notice the change of size and shape in your teeth. It is important to brush and floss daily. After one or two weeks, you`ll return for a follow-up appointment.
Porcelain veneers are reasonable facsimiles of natural teeth, not perfect replacements. It’s not uncommon to see slight variations in the color of porcelain veneers upon close inspection, as this occurs even in natural teeth.

Invisalign®
Invisalign® takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements your dentist or orthodontist plans out for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. You just pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks, until your treatment is complete. You’ll achieve a great smile with little interference in your daily life. The best part about the whole process is that most people won’t even know you’re straightening your teeth.
Sure, there are other options out there for straightening your teeth, but none offers the level of comfort, convenience, and confidence that you’ll find with Invisalign®. And no matter what stage you’re at in life, you’ll appreciate how our cutting-edge approach to treatment has minimal interference in how you live but has a significant positive impact on how you look and feel about yourself.

Teeth Whitening
Regardless of how well you care for your teeth, it is inevitable that, over time, some yellowing or discoloration will occur. Aging, substances that stain your teeth (such as coffee and tobacco), excessive fluoride, or the deterioration of a tooth’s nerve can cause gradual teeth staining.
A tooth whitening treatment can be performed either at home, dentist-supervised process, or in the dentists’ chair (in-office). While neither of these methods stops future discoloration, these teeth whitening treatments bring about whiter teeth and help create a brighter smile. Research has shown that the best results are reached when you combine both, in-office whitening and home whitening.
At South Shore Prosthodontics, we provide Glo Whitening, a new at-home whitening system that can whiten your teeth up to five shades in just days! We also offer Zoom! Whitening, the world’s most trusted and efficient in-office whitening system. Let us help you transform the color of your smile!

Tooth-colored Bonding
Tooth-colored bondings provide good durability and resistance to fracture in small-to-mid size restorations in the anterior teeth. They are a good and more affordable alternative to crowns or veneers when there is enough tooth to support the bonding of the composite restoration.
If you have a slight imperfection in your teeth, bonding can be a simple way to improve your smile. Bonding can repair teeth that are stained, chipped, crooked, or have minor gaps. Dr. Khayat uses his experience and skill to provide you with a new beautiful smile that boosts your confidence and could change your life.
