Are Dental Implants Right for You?
What are implants?
Dental implants consist of three components. The first is a biocompatible, titanium post designed to mimic your missing tooth root. Second is the abutment, this acts as an anchor or attachment for your dental restoration (part three). Implants are used to permanently replace a missing tooth and stabilize your oral health.
How can implants help?
98% of patients have found success with dental implants. Having a missing tooth not only negatively affects your health but also your confidence. Implants permanently replace missing teeth and restore your mouth to optimal function. This procedure also prevents further dental problems from taking shape by stabilizing the jawbone and surrounding teeth.
How do implants work?
To begin the area left by the missing tooth is cleaned and prepared. Next, Dr. Becerra inserts the implant post into your jaw to allow for greater stability. Time is needed for the implant to bond with your jaw so a temporary restoration might be placed. Once successful, the abutment is added and the final restoration (crown) attached on top.

Guided Implants
Dr. Khayat and Dr. Becerra use a specialized Cone Beam CT Scanner when planning for your dental implant placements. This scanner allows our restorative dentists to capture detailed 3-D images of your mouth, jaw, and skull. Using these images, we can evaluate if you are a candidate for implant placement and identify the best way to insert the posts.
Being able to plan and digitally perform the procedure ahead of time has proven to reduce treatment time and produce more accurate results. Our team can anticipate any potential barriers and show you how your implants will look.
After you have been prepped, our skilled implant dentist uses the CBCT scanner images as a guide when placing your actual implants. We aim to mimic the plan we have set out and quickly yet carefully restore your smile.

Tooth extraction procedures today are far less painful than ever before, thanks to powerful anesthetics and sedatives. In many cases, a patient who has a tooth pulled experiences little or no discomfort, and only minor bleeding.
Before a tooth is extracted, the area surrounding the tooth is numbed with a topical/and or injectable anesthetic such as Novocaine.
Patients with extracted teeth sometimes need to take an antibiotic, and at the very least, take precautions following the procedure to ensure that infection doesn’t occur.
Our team is experienced in the removal of wisdom teeth including difficult cases such as impacted teeth. This can be extremely painful so we aim to act fast wherever possible.

When our expert surgically places this new bone, it begins to blend with your jawbone and restores function. Bone grafting is most commonly used to facilitate the placement of dental implants. When there is not enough jawbone, an implant cannot be placed so this procedure is often used first.

A sinus lift involves our expert dentist in Hingham creating an access route to your sinus membrane. The membrane is then lifted to make room for a synthetic bone material. This material is then packed beneath the membrane and gradually solidifies and blends with your natural bone. Finally, the opening is covered and sutured to allow the bone time to heal.
Once completely healed, we will take digital x-rays to assess whether the sinus lift was a success and can plan your dental implants.

The procedure begins with administration of a local anesthetic to reduce any discomfort. Then, a small instrument called a “scaler,” or an ultrasonic cleaner is used to clean beneath your gum line to remove plaque and tartar.
The root surfaces on the tooth are then planed and smoothed. If effective, scaling and root planing helps the gums reattach themselves to the tooth structure. Additional measures may be needed if the periodontal pockets persist after scaling and root planing.
